CO
Seasonal Energies – Wood
Element – Metal
Sensory Characteristic: The pulse of the CO is yang and is therefore large and pervasive. However, its movement is restrained from the outset and reflects its association with the Element of Metal.
Common Imbalances:
Obstruction of the CO - This pulse is typical of constipation.
LU
Seasonal Energies – Wood
Element – Metal
Sensory Characteristic: The pulse at the LU position is similar to the pulse at the LIV position but is less externalized and slightly less active.
Common Imbalances:
Heat in the LU - Characteristic of acute states related to the respiratory system. Such states are typically related to the mucous membrane lining the respiratory tracts. The mucous membrane is associated with the LIV and therefore the heat is also reflected in the LIV. However, in acute states in which the heat seeps into the organ itself (the lungs), it will also be reflected in the pulse position of the LU. For this reason, the treatment can be conducted using two organs.
Heat in the LIV is characteristic of acute conditions of the respiratory system, particularly pneumonia and tonsillitis.
Weakness of the LU - Weakness at the LU pulse position is characteristic of three conditions: hereditary weakness of the lungs, weakness due to a premature birth, and, most commonly, weakness following pneumonia.
ST
Seasonal Energies – Earth
Element – Earth
Sensory Characteristic: The pulse at the ST pulse position is usually closer to the surface than the pulse at other positions and can be felt by light touch of the skin. It is extremely active and warm, like wind in the treetops. The heat and the activeness reflect the acidity of the stomach and the intensive activity of children’s digestive systems
Common Imbalances:
Heat in the ST - The pulse of the ST is high and hot from the outset, and using it to derive a practical diagnosis is sometimes difficult. It is unclear whether this is the natural heat that is characteristic of children or pathological heat. During tooth eruption, the pulse at the ST pulse position is hot and pronounced.
Emotional Wind (Gui) in the ST - This pulse is common in conditions in which children suffer from chronic stomachaches that have no diagnosis in Western medicine. Such conditions are primarily emotional.
