Seasonal Energies – Metal

Element –  Water

Sensory Characteristic: Close to the surface, airy, and soft. Similar to the pulse of the GB (p. 138), but less taut and active and less pulsating. In adults this pulse is related to orthopedic problems due to the connection to the meridians of the back and the legs. This is not true in children.

Seasonal Energies – Metal

Element –  Water

Sensory Characteristic: The pulse at the KID position is weak in comparison to the nearby LIV position. It is soft to the touch but possesses the restraint that is typical of all pulses associated with Metal on the Element level or the level of the Seasonal Energies.

Common Imbalances:

Weakness of the KID - Less characteristic of children and typical of recovery from a serious illness such as pneumonia, congenital weakness, or premature birth.

Heat in the KID - Heat felt at the KID pulse position is indicative of an acute condition or pathological qi penetration to the yin level of the body.

In the case of inflammation of the bladder, it will feel warm and extremely active. In cases of EBV (mononucleosis) or CMV, the pulse will be warm, deep, and extremely concentrated.

Emotional Wind (Gui) in the KID - Emotional Wind (Gui) is extremely common in children and reflects an advanced level of fear and anxiety. This condition should be balanced, as it weakens the child and can have a long-term impact on the child’s future emotional development.
